February 19 to May 24
Riksgränsen is legendary for its playful freeriding terrain and easy access off-piste skiing, whether you’re skiing in the resort, ski touring or going further with the help of a heli.
Riksgränsen ski resort - just a stone’s throw from Niehku Mountain Villa - opens at the end of February when the sun starts to come back to these northerly latitudes and the massive low-pressure systems calm down. Day by day, there is more light and the dark night sky will turn into rose and stay light at midnight by May. When other ski resorts close for spring, Riksgränsen is still in full winter mode. Lifts close in end of May and if there is enough snow they are open on summer soltice.
The charm of the resort is that it’s not a big, modern resort. With just two chairlifts and four T-bars there are almost 30 marked runs with 400 metres of vertical and even parts of it skiing into Norway.
Stay at Niehku and ski on your own at Riksgränsen ski resort. Riksgränsen resort is just a 15 minute walk from Niehku or a 3 minute drive. Riksgränsen is Sweden’s northern most ski resort and a mythical place reknown for a great atmosphere, old lifts and great skiing. The views are fantastic.
